Swarovski is a very famous brand name, belonging to Swarovski AG from Austria. There they have a factory where they produce their increasingly popular ranges of crystal-glass products. The company was founded by Daniel Swarovski (1862-1956).

Daniel was born in northern Bohemia, the son of the owner of a small glass factory; there he developed his skills while he served an apprenticeship. He became particularly highly skilled in the art of glass-cutting. He also designed and patented an electric cutting machine, to help in the manufacture of crystal glass. Daniel was joined by a financier, and in 1895 the Swarovski company was founded. It was able to set up a crystal cutting factory there in Austria, using the local cheap hydroelectricity.
